Alexander Millar - Send In The Clouds

Following the Working Man shows in both Newcastle and Sheffield, I’ve been experimenting with reference material from two locations; Glasgow, and interestingly London. London, perhaps would not seem the obvious location, most people seem to think of my work as distinctly ‘northern’, and admittedly, that is where my frame of reference as a child and now an adult, has come from. But, during the Working Man exhibition in Newcastle, a fan and collector, sent me some fantastic archive photographs of Battersea Powerstation. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to paint it. And that is how ‘Cathedral of the Working Man’ was born. It was a huge success, not just in terms of popularity, but I enjoyed painting it and it gave me a thirst for London scenes.
